Alabama Power sends crews to storm-hit Houston

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama Power thought the call might come and it did. Hundreds of linemen and support staff mobilized early Tuesday morning and headed straight to Houston, where about two million people are reportedly without power.

Alabama Power said it sent crews totaling 350 linemen and support personnel, 50 of whom left Tuscaloosa Tuesday morning.

Alabama Power officials say the staff will be on site for at least 14 days and have a tough job ahead of them. They will work 16-hour days, doing what they were trained to do: restore power as quickly as possible to those affected by Beryl.

“It makes you feel like you’re doing something for people because I know people are very grateful to come to our territory when we have storms. You know, we’ve had our tornadoes and our hurricanes. We have our storm season and everything else. It’s a big event, it helps a lot. It makes you feel good to help people. It’s tough when it’s 100 degrees out and you don’t have power,” said Logan Eads, Alabama Power engineering supervisor.

The number 350 represents Alabama Power crews from across the state of Alabama. The crews left the state with bucket trucks, pole trucks and other equipment needed for the job.
