Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his mother

The Ntuzuma Regional Court sentenced a 31-year-old man to life imprisonment for the (multiple) rape of his biological mother. The man lived with his mother in the KwaMashu area and raped her for the first time in 2020.

After that, he raped her frequently, almost daily. The plaintiff (his mother), who is mentally disabled, complained to the people around her, but no one paid any attention to her complaints.

When her sister came to visit from another province, the plaintiff asked to go home with her because of the rapes. The sister reported the incident to the police and the man was arrested after the plaintiff reported him.

Regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, said: “In court, prosecutor Lisa Abrahams cited the witness statements of the complainant and her sister, as well as the evidence of the Form J88 and a psychologist’s report. In the complainant’s victim impact statement, supported by court preparation officer Senziwe Mthethwa, the complainant said the incident would haunt her for the rest of her life.”

She said she had to move because of her son’s actions and that he showed no sign of remorse for what he did to her.

The man was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape. In addition, the court ordered his name to be entered into the National Sex Offenders Registry.

“The NPA welcomes the successful prosecution. It is our mission to protect the most vulnerable in society. We commend the work of the public prosecutor and the police, which led to a conviction,” Ramkisson-Kara concluded.
