Off-duty Sacramento police officer found dead on Rocklin Street

ROCKLIN — The man found dead on a Rocklin street early Thursday morning was an off-duty Sacramento police officer, the department announced.

Rocklin police said they responded to a report of an unresponsive person lying near the intersection of University Avenue and Larkspur Drive shortly after 6 a.m. Firefighters pronounced him dead, and Rocklin police said initial signs did not suggest anything suspicious.

Later Thursday, Sacramento police announced that the man found dead was Officer Daniel Bartlett.

Sacramento police determined Bartlett was off-duty at the time.


“Daniel was a kind person, friend and public servant who embodied the values ​​of this organization,” Chief Katherine Lester said in a statement.

Bartlett had been with the Sacramento Police Department for over four years and was assigned to the south area patrol.

The 30-year-old leaves behind a wife and small child.

An exact cause of death has not yet been determined.
