Chelsea and Atlanta United reach agreement for €10m transfer of Caleb Wiley

Atlanta United left-back Caleb Wiley has been linked with a move to RC Strasbourg for several weeks now, but while it initially looked like it would happen without any real involvement from Chelsea, it now appears that we are going to be the go-to team in the BlueCo multiverse for this deal.

According to The Athletic, we have reached an agreement with Atlanta for the transfer of Wiley, with the hope of sending the young left-back on loan to Strasbourg immediately – or perhaps not so immediately since Wiley was selected for the US squad for the Summer Olympics yesterday.

The reported fee for the two-cap United States international is around €10m (£8.5m/$10.9m), although the 19-year-old has already gained plenty of first-team experience with Atlanta in MLS. Whether he is ready for the rigours of Ligue 1 football (let alone Premier League football) is another question entirely.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough!
