Wait, is (SPOILER) dead in House of the Dragon? What happens next, according to George RR Martin's book

Season 2, Episode 4 of House of the Dragon is definitely a big one. There’s so much happening that it’s clear the Dance of the Dragons is about to get even more exciting – but one development in particular might leave you desperate to know what will happen next.

Is Aegon dead in House of the Dragon?

Aegon intervenes in the battle over Rook’s Rest and surprises everyone – including Criston Cole and Aemond Targaryen, the masterminds of the conspiracy.

Rhaenys and Meleys soon enter into battle against Aegon and Sunfyre, and things do not go well for the king and his smaller dragon. Aemond and the giant Vhagar soon join the fray, and Aegon is happy to see his brother… at least for a moment. Aemond orders Vhagar to Subscribe to and the fire hits Aegon and Sunfyre, hurling them out of the sky and causing them to crash land.

Aemond and Vhagar kill Rhaenys and Meleys, then Criston catches up to Aemond, who stands over the fallen king with his sword mysteriously drawn. However, Aemond leaves his brother alone and the episode ends before we learn the king’s fate.

What happens next in “Fire and Blood”?

Depending on your allegiances in the civil war between the Greens and the Blacks, you will be either relieved or disappointed to learn that Aegon survives the downfall in Fire and Blood. Sunfyre also lives.

But both are badly injured. Aegon is badly burned and breaks several ribs and his hip. His armor is fused to one arm thanks to the dragon fire. He falls into a virtual coma, helped by Westeros’ version of painkillers, milk of the poppy, and sleeps most of the time. He spends a whole year bedridden – and while he is out of action, Aemond takes on the role of Prince Regent.

Sunfyre, meanwhile, has wing damage so severe that he can no longer fly. He stays in Rook’s Rest for a while to recover, but is eventually able to take to the skies again.
