Houston man wanted by Indiana arrested in Stanton County | News

PILGER — A Houston man wanted by Indiana was arrested following a traffic stop in Stanton County Friday afternoon.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 15 for speeding approximately eight miles south of Pilger and made contact with Delvin Eberado Velasquez-Romero, 32.

Upon investigation, sheriffs discovered that Velasquez-Romero, who spoke little English, did not have a driver’s license and had a fake Texas In-Transit card on his vehicle. They also discovered that he was wanted on five felony charges in Benton County, Indiana.

The sheriffs were arrested on felony warrants and jailed pending extradition to Indiana. Velasquez-Romero is also believed to be in the country illegally.

In a statement, Sheriff Mike Unger said it was “an example of diligent police work by a deputy on patrol in a remote part of the country, doing what he was hired and trained to do.”
