Soon some relief from the heat

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – It will stay warm and humid tonight for the Fourth of July cookouts and fireworks, and there is still a chance of a sudden thunderstorm.

The First weather warning day remains in effect tonight, with dangerous heat and humidity, along with some isolated strong storms. Heat warning and a Warning of excessive heat are both in effect for parts of the mid-state until 7 p.m. Heat index readings will be 105º-110º at times. Try to limit time spent outside today and drink plenty of water. In addition to the heat, we’ll see isolated thunderstorms through later this evening. Some storms could be stronger, bringing heavy downpours and gusty winds. Most of the thunderstorms will have passed by the time the fireworks go off, but there could still be a few remaining.

We’ll see showers and thunderstorms again overnight and into early Friday morning as a front moves through. More heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue until about midday before clearing up in the late afternoon. Highs will be noticeably cooler, around 90º, but it will be humid for another day.

The weekend will finally see a little less heat and humidity. Temperatures will be just over 30 degrees and the humidity will be significantly lower. Both days will be dry with alternating sun and clouds.

The chance of rain increases next week. Monday through Thursday there is a 30 to 40% chance of rain each day. Temperatures will gradually get cooler as the week progresses. On Wednesday and Thursday, highs will actually be below normal, reaching over 30 degrees Celsius, with lows between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius.
