Government to suspend tolls as part of hurricane preparations | News

The government is taking steps to encourage both toll operators to suspend toll collection on their respective highways as part of their preparations for the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says he is currently in talks with toll operators and the National Road Operating and Constructing Company Limited (NROCC).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Vaz explains that this will initially come into effect from 6 p.m. this evening. Toll roads will be closed until midnight and only providers of essential services will be allowed to operate.

“This will allow preparations to be made that will ease vehicle traffic,” he said.

“I will sign the order shortly and make it available to the media and the public,” Vaz continued.
