Charlie Griffin of Outer Banks dies in boating accident

Charlie Griffin, a fishing boat captain who appeared in several seasons of National Geographic Bad tuna spin off, Bad Tuna: Outer BanksHe died in a boating accident on Monday.

His death was confirmed via the official Facebook page of Griffin’s ship Reels of Fortune:

It is with deep sadness that we report that Charlie Griffin and his beloved dog Leila died in a boating accident today, March 4th. Please remember family and friends and pray. We will remember Griff forever!

Accordingly The Voice of the Outer BanksOn Monday, the U.S. Coast Guard received a report of an overdue vessel traveling from Virginia to Wanchese, NC. It was eventually located off Pea Island, where Griffin’s body was recovered.

The search for a second, unidentified occupant aboard the ship is reportedly continuing. No further details are available at press time.

Griffin and Reels of Fortune – which included his son/first officer Jake Griffin – appeared in seasons 4 and 5 of Bad Tuna: Outer Banks (fka Bad Tuna: North vs. South), which aired in 2017 and 2018. All episodes are currently streaming on Disney Plus.
