The CBI had on Thursday filed an FIR against unidentified persons in the UGC-NET document leak case on the tip-off of the Union Education Ministry.

The UGC-NET-2024 examination for selection of junior scientists, assistant professors and doctoral candidates was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in two shifts across the country on June 18.

According to sources, the next day, the University Grants Commission received tip-offs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (l4C) that the document was available on the dark web and was allegedly being sold for Rs 500,000 to Rs 600,000 on messaging platforms.

According to the education ministry’s complaint, the information provided by the I4C, which is under the Union home ministry, “prima facie suggests that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised,” officials said.
