Shooting leaves one dead in downtown Indianapolis

According to IMPD, officers responded to a report of the incident at the intersection of East Washington Street and Alabama Street, near the Julia Carson Transit Center in downtown Indianapolis, shortly before 11 p.m. on June 22.

When officers arrived, they found a man shot. The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

IMPD said they arrested a man as a suspect and transported the suspect to a local hospital for evaluation. According to IMPD, the suspect ran down Washington Street before being arrested, which led to several temporary road closures in the area.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office is working to determine the exact manner and cause of death. Once the family has been notified, the office will also release the victim’s identity.
