Ironwood wins gold at the Police and Firefighter Championships

The Ironwood State Prison Football Club won gold at the U.S. Police and Fire Championships in San Diego.

The championships, formerly known as the Police and Fire Games or Police Olympics, took place from June 8 to 15.

The Ironwood State Prison Football Club’s gold-winning team members included a member from Calipatria State Prison, A. Alba, and another from Arizona Corrections, A. Villegas.

The remaining team members are currently employees of the Ironwood State Prison:

  • J. Sosa
  • J. Alba
  • G.Herrera
  • V. Quinonez
  • C. Carillo
  • R. Mendoza
  • J. Hernandez Ochoa

What are the U.S. Police and Fire Championships?

The championships are Olympic-style competitions featuring athletes from police, fire and corrections, probation, border patrol, immigration and customs from across the country. Athletes compete in 50 different sports at 35 venues throughout San Diego County.
