Teenager arrested for murder of 15-year-old in Newport News, Virginia, in 2022.

Police arrested a 17-year-old on Tuesday for premeditated murder and several weapons offenses.

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia – Newport News police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the 2022 shooting death of a 15-year-old boy.

Police took the teenager into custody on Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder and several weapons offenses.

The shooting occurred on October 14, 2022 in the 800 block of Walden Pond Court. Officers found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. Paramedics took the teenager to the hospital, where he died the next day

Because the victim and suspect are minors, Newport News police are not releasing their names.

Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew issued the following statement regarding the arrest:

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who helped solve this case. Through your tireless work, we were able to provide some closure to a family still reeling from the loss of their young son.”
