Arundel High School was apparently used as a backdrop for raunchy rap video; Investigation ongoing – Capital Gazette

Anne Arundel County school officials are investigating a rap music video posted online that appears to have been filmed at Arundel High School in Gambrills.

No one in the music video, which contains visual and lyrical references to sex, drugs and violence, has been identified as a current student, said Bob Mosier, chief information officer for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

“I can tell you we are aware of it and we are investigating it,” he said.

When contacted, Arundel High officials referred questions about the matter to Mosier, who did not provide details of the investigation.

Parents across the county who saw the video expressed concerns in emails to The Capital, wondering how people who appeared to have no current connection to the school were able to gain access to it.

The video “Wanna Be” (Remix) was posted on YouTube by The Rogue Boys two weeks ago and has 18,000 views as of Wednesday.

The nearly three-minute video begins with a satirical disclaimer: “WE ARE NOT RAPPERS… No one was injured in the making of this video and it was all for educational purposes.”

Next, two young men are shown walking down the hallway toward a classroom that appears to be Arundel High. They sit in a classroom full of other people, one of whom uses a vape pen, music starts and they start rapping explicitly about sex and fighting.

The video continues to show scantily clad women dancing and ends with an apparent fake fight.

On the Rogue Boys YouTube page, someone using their account wrote, “Your principal let us in after hours,” in response to a question about how they got to school.

The Capital reached out to the group via social media but received no response.

Arundel Principal Gina Davenport, who will leave her post at the end of the school year, declined to respond to a request for comment. District officials say Davenport’s departure has nothing to do with the release of the video.

On May 1, Kimberly Winterbottom was announced as the new principal, effective June 26. Winterbottom is currently principal of Marley Middle School in Glen Burnie. Davenport’s next assignment has not been announced.

There are 44 other videos on the Rogue Boys page, mostly of people going on blind dates, but this is the first music video they’ve posted.
