Buffalo Grove Kicks Off Farmers Market Season

The Buffalo Grove Farmers Market kicked off its 16th season Sunday with a mix of familiar vendors and some new additions.

Thirty-six vendors, including six new ones, offered their wares along Route 83 between Deerfield Parkway and Buffalo Grove Road. The site has undergone a slight displacement due to the construction of the new amphitheater at Mike Rylko Community Park. But other than that, very little has changed.

“I like that there are farmers offering fresh produce,” said one of the customers, Tim Adornetto of Grayslake. “And I love that there are bakers who make sourdough bread. I also love supporting small businesses.

Favorites included Cheese People, Green Cuisine and Bailey’s Farm to Home, which offered fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers. Other vendors offered everything from rum cakes and spring rolls to cold brew coffee and freeze-dried candy.

The duo Second Wind provided a musical backdrop to the proceedings.

Paulette Greenberg, marketing manager for the market, said it was a busy opening day.

“The sellers are very happy,” Greenberg said. “We lost a big farmer. We replaced him with two other farmers.

The market continues every Sunday until the second Sunday in October.
