Hamburg police shoot man near the 2024 European Championship fan park and threaten “officers with a pickaxe”

A man with a pickaxe and an incendiary device was shot near a fan park for the 2024 European Championship in Hamburg.

The incident reportedly occurred on the sidelines of a fan parade that began at 12:30 p.m. local time in the tourist area.

In a statement on social media, the police said: “There is currently a major police operation in St. Pauli.

“According to initial findings, a person threatened police officers with a pickaxe and an incendiary device. The police officers then used their firearms.”

“The attacker was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment.”
