Notice of “Air Quality Alert Day” published for Sunday

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has announced an “air quality action day” for Sunday, according to a press release.

IDEM officials said temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius would combine with sunny skies and light winds, which could lead to an increase in ozone levels that would reach the “unhealthy” range for sensitive groups.

The edition covers all of southwest Indiana, including the cities of Evansville, Boonville, Bedford, Bloomfield, Huntingburg, Mount Vernon, Paoli, Princeton, Rockport, Tell City and Vincennes.

Alert days have also been declared for central and east-central Indiana, southeast Indiana, and western and west-central Indiana.

“The air quality action days predicted by IDEM only indicate higher levels of ground-level ozone and particulate matter,” the agency said in a press release. “Other factors may affect overall air quality.”
