Woman killed in pedestrian accident in rural Tazewell County

BEIJIN — A 20-year-old woman was pronounced dead after a crash with a pedestrian in rural Tazewell County, authorities said Wednesday.

Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said his office was contacted at 7:05 a.m. to respond to the intersection of US 24 and Grossenbach Road, where the incident occurred.

Authorities were alerted to the situation at 5:01 a.m., Hanley said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:32 a.m. Her name is being withheld until her family has been notified, the coroner said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, with more information to be released later.

This case remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.
