Congressional investigation into Feeding Our Future fraud case intensifies

(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Education has come under scrutiny from Congress.

Following a verdict in the first criminal trial in the Feeding Our Future scandal and a new report from the Office of Minnesota Legislative Auditor, the House of Representatives is requesting extensive records from MDE. Feeding Our Future embezzled up to $250 million that was actually intended for meals for needy children.

The program was overseen by the state but funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Federal Child Nutrition Program. The U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce is requesting disclosure of all emails, text messages, or other communications between the MDE and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, USDA, or the Minnesota Governor’s Office.

The committee also wants documents that the MDE gave to the FBI, as well as internal communications between MDE employees. Finally, the committee is interested in documents on sponsoring organizations and food distribution sites.

The letter was co-signed by all members of Minnesota’s Republican congressional delegation, including Brad Finstad (CD-01), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (CD-06), Michelle Fischbach (CD-07) and Pete Stauber (CD-08).
