Driver killed, 2 people injured in 4-car crash on I-30 near Benton

One person was killed and two others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 30 near Benton Friday morning, according to a preliminary fatality report from the Arkansas State Police.

Jacob Benedict, 31, of Benton died about 6:09 a.m. when he crashed his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado into a concrete barrier on westbound I-30 while a cloud of dust from nearby construction obscured the view of the highway, the report said.

The accident ended in a pile-up, with a following 2017 Nissan Altima ramming the rear of the Chevrolet before a 2018 Ford F-250 ramming the rear of the Nissan. A 2021 Nissan Rogue ramming the rear of the Ford.

The driver of the Ford, 52-year-old Gregory Macon of Conway, and a passenger in the Nissan Rogue, 56-year-old Lisa Mitchell of Benton, were injured in the crash. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A police officer investigating the accident reported that the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time.
