Investigators hope it could provide the information needed to find the suspect.

“Whoever did this must be locked up,” said David Morales.

Nearly a week after a brutal attack in which a 91-year-old woman was beaten and sexually assaulted in her own home, concern continues in Reddick.

“This is very, very important because whoever it is needs to be put away,” Darian Richardson said.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office remains confident that there is information in the small community that could lead to an arrest and is hoping that a larger reward will solve the case.

The Florida Sheriff’s Association has added an additional $5,000 to the thousand dollars already offered by Crime Stoppers of Marion County.

“We’re hoping that this is enough to find someone who knows something that can help our investigators. And again, we’ve got all of our investigators working on this in the hopes that we can come to a quick resolution,” said Lt. Paul Bloom.

Reddick is a community of only a few hundred residents. Many doubt that the suspect is from the area.

In addition to each detective assigned to the case, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab analyzes evidence collected at the crime scene.

“Investigators are still following leads, and much of the evidence is still being processed and carefully reviewed,” Bloom said.

The victim’s house was dark in the middle of the night on Saturday into Sunday. The only description is that of a man.

“A 91-year-old woman imagined waking up in the middle of the night and seeing a dark shadow walking through her house, as if someone was creeping through her house,” Bloom said.

Now there is an increased reward in hopes of increasing efforts to put a dangerous person in prison.

“If anyone knows, they should come forward and say something because it is not right,” Morales said.

WESH 2 News learned the victim still suffers from significant bruising. A victim advocate continues to work with her and her family.
