Tyson Foods heir John Tyson arrested again and suspended as CFO

Tyson Foods’ chief financial officer was suspended from the company on Thursday after he was arrested early in the morning for alleged drunken driving.

John R. Tyson, 34, was arrested by University of Arkansas police at Fayetteville shortly after 1:30 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and illegal turning.

He was released on bail a few hours later and is scheduled to appear in court on July 15.

Tyson Foods said Thursday that its CFO had been suspended and would be temporarily replaced by Curt Calaway. Tyson is also executive vice president of the Arkansas-based meat processing company.

Tyson is the great-grandson of company founder John W. Tyson and son of current chairman John H. Tyson.

The incident was the second time Tyson was arrested while intoxicated.

In November 2022 – three years after joining the family business and two months after being named CFO – he was arrested in Fayetteville after drunkenly entering a random woman’s unlocked home and falling asleep in a bed.

The woman, who did not know Tyson, found him and called the police. After police determined that Tyson had not been invited to the house, he was arrested and charged with trespassing and public intoxication.

Tyson pleaded guilty to both counts and was ordered to pay fines and court costs.
