Twin girls from West Virginia die after overdose – mother arrested and charged

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, a woman was arrested in connection with the deaths of two twin babies.

Olivia Moore, 30, was arrested on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, on two counts of child neglect resulting in death.


According to the criminal complaint, police officers responded to reports of unresponsive twin babies in Raleigh County on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. When officers arrived on scene, they found the twins dead and foam coming from their mouths.

Troopers reported that Moore had taken the twins from a back bedroom to a couch in the living room before police arrived on the scene. The crime scene was secured by West Virginia State Police troopers, who then contacted the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team to investigate the scene.

The Bradley Volunteer Fire Department conducted a carbon monoxide test in the house and the result was negative.

Moore was interviewed by a trooper from the Beckley Division of the West Virginia State Police while the crime scene was being examined by the crime scene investigation team. The criminal complaint stated that Moore had been caring for the twins the night before and that morning. During questioning, Moore told troopers that something had been wrong with the twins around 2:00 a.m., but that they were still alive.

When the investigating police officer received the babies’ death certificates, he noted ethanol and fentanyl poisoning, as well as carfentanil, acetyl fentanyl, lidocaine, quinine and diphenhydramine poisoning.

Troopers contacted Moore on Monday, June 10, 2024, and requested a meeting with a trooper from the Beckley Division of the West Virginia State Police. Moore was arrested after another interview on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
