Man arrested after attack on Pinole Police Department employee

PINOLE – A 65-year-old San Pablo man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of assaulting a Pinole police officer, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. at the station at 880 Tennent Avenue, police said in a news release.

The employee had just helped another person when the man approached the counter. Police said the employee greeted the man, who then rang the bell on the counter several times and grabbed her right arm.

The employee resisted, but the man pulled her towards him and prevented her from escaping, police said.

When she managed to free herself, the man climbed over the counter and chased her, police said. With the help of another employee, she fled into an administrative area.

Officers heard the commotion and responded to the incident. They located the man in the main hallway and arrested him. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault, battery, and a misdemeanor warrant.

The incident remains under investigation.
