Two dead, two rescue helicopters after fatal accident in Warrensburg

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a two-car crash in Warrensburg, Missouri, Monday afternoon that left two people dead and two others requiring a rescue helicopter.

According to MSHP, the crash occurred at 12:50 p.m. Monday near Highway 50 and Business Route 50 after a 16-year-old boy fell asleep behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado truck and drove off the road.

According to MSHP, the driver reentered the roadway and crossed Business Route 50. The truck was thrown through the air and struck an Acura RDX SUV that contained four passengers – the driver, 83-year-old Patricia Moffett of Overland Park, Kansas, as well as 55-year-old Derek Moffett, 19-year-old Alexandria Moffett and a 16-year-old girl, all of Erie, Colorado.

After the impact, both vehicles left the road, causing the SUV to crash into a traffic sign.

The accident report states that Derek and Patricia Moffett died at the scene. Alexandria and the 16-year-old girl were taken to Research Medical Center by helicopter with serious injuries. All occupants of the SUV were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was not wearing a seatbelt.
