A Georgia officer conducting an area check at a park found a man and three children dead in a car in what police are calling a murder-suicide.

The gruesome discovery was made by the Gwinnett County police officer around 1 a.m. Wednesday at Lucky Shoals Park in Tucker after he found a “suspicious vehicle” parked on the pedestrian walkway, police said.

“The officer shouted something to the occupants but received no response,” the police statement said. “He approached the four-door car and found the bodies of four people inside.”

The driver appeared to be an adult man, and two girls and a boy were also found dead in the car. Police do not currently know the exact age of the children, but according to the report, officers believe the children were between elementary and middle school age.

WSB-TV reports that the four people were shot.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and while tragic, our officers will step back and do their job fully and ensure they investigate the case like any other murder and attempt to at least reach a conclusion. “The families that may be involved,” Sgt. Michele Pihera told WSB-TV.

The names of the deceased are being withheld by the Gwinnett County Police Department pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators are currently investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide. The coroner will make a final decision on the situation and cause of death.
