Gary Glitter to pay £500,000 to the woman he raped when he was 12

Paedophile pop star Gary Glitter has to pay over £500,000 in damages to a woman he raped as a schoolgirl.

The woman, now 60, told the High Court in London that she was subjected to a long ordeal in 1977 after her mother, who was obsessed with the singer, took her to one of his concerts and she then met him backstage.

At the age of 12, she was showered with champagne in a hotel. She and her mother were invited to Glitter’s house in London, where he attacked and raped the girl.

Judge Tipples said she fully accepted the plaintiff’s evidence about the abuse and the profound impact it had on the rest of her life.
