Two dead in a car-motorcycle crash on East 38th Street in Erie on Tuesday

Two motorists were killed in a fiery crash between a motorcycle and a car on East 38th Street in Erie Tuesday evening.

The motorcyclist, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of a Subaru involved in the crash, a 46-year-old man, died early Wednesday morning at UPMC Hamot, Erie police and police said Erie County Coroner’s Office.

The crash was the second fatal crash involving a motorcycle in the Erie area on Tuesday. A car-motorcycle accident followed on West 12th Street in Millcreek Township, west of Erie, in which the motorcyclist was killed shortly after noon.

The Erie accident was reported at 6:42 p.m. Tuesday at East 38th Street and Marion Street near Tops Supermarket, according to police and Erie County 911.

Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling east on East 38th Street and the Subaru was traveling north on Marion Street and turning left to head west on East 38th Street when the two vehicles collided. According to police, the accident caused the Subaru to roll over and the motorcycle to break apart.

According to police, the motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle into the Subaru. According to the coroner’s office, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:23 p.m.

The name of the motorcyclist has not yet been released.

The driver of the Subaru and a passenger were both transported from the scene to UPMC Hamot. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:04 a.m. Wednesday, the coroner’s office reported. There was no information available on Wednesday morning about the passenger’s condition.

The accident was still under investigation on Wednesday.

More deaths in the Erie area on Tuesday

The fatal accident in Millcreek Township was reported at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of West 12th Street.

According to Millcreek police, a Lincoln sedan was traveling west on West 12th Street and was making a left turn into a store when it turned in front of the eastbound motorcycle that collided with the car.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified by Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook as 52-year-old Jamey Umland of Erie, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 12:38 a.m. Tuesday.

According to Millcreek police, the driver of the Lincoln, a 37-year-old woman, was not injured in the crash.

Also on Tuesday, a 35-year-old Erie man was killed and a 31-year-old woman was injured in a shooting reported at 1:49 a.m. in the 700 block of West Fourth Street in Erie. Erie police accuse a Detroit man of shooting the couple multiple times during an argument in the middle of the street.
