Arlington police investigate fatal hit-and-run accident

ARLINGTON, Texas – Arlington police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the intersection of West Pioneer Parkway and Center Street around 2:01 a.m. after a hit-and-run crash was reported. They found the victim, a 30-year-old man, lying in the roadway, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Witnesses told police that the victim was using the crosswalk and attempting to cross Pioneer Parkway when a black Honda Civic traveling eastbound on the roadway collided with him, police said. The driver reportedly did not stop and continued driving.

The Civic was found in the 500 block of East Pioneer Parkway with damage consistent with the crash and several bottles of alcohol inside, police said. Witnesses told officers the driver abandoned the vehicle and ran toward a nearby apartment complex.

Police are working to identify the driver, officials said. As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made.

The victim’s name will be released by the Tarrant County Coroner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.
