New Orleans police warn residents of arrest warrant phone scam

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Officials with the New Orleans Police Department are warning residents about a warrant phone scam reported in the area.

NOPD officials said residents reported receiving calls from a person claiming to be an NOPD officer from the “warrant unit” telling them they had to give them $500 to avoid arrest and a life sentence.

According to NOPD, officers will not contact residents to ask for money and will threaten them with arrest at any time.

NOPD officials advise residents who receive such or similar calls to hang up and call 911.
