Police are investigating a reported shooting in Coral Gables that left two people dead and a third hospitalized Thursday.

Coral Gables police arrived at the scene at an apartment building in the 300 block of Granello Drive around 9:40 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Miami-Dade Police officials confirmed that two people were found dead in an apartment. A third person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to sources, the incident appeared to be a murder-suicide.

Aerial footage from Helicopter 6 showed a heavy police presence in the area and officers cordoned off the intersection.

The police said that this was an isolated incident and that there was no danger to the public. However, they did not provide any further details about the incident.

At the intersection where the incident occurred, there are two residential facilities, including a senior living center and an apartment complex called Gables Ponce.

A local resident said the complex is home to many University of Miami students, but it was not known if any college students were involved in the incident.

“It’s just sad, it’s horrible, just horrible. Two lives ended, so much help is available. I guess it’s desperation,” said Gables Ponce resident Lorie Perez.

The incident occurred not far from Coral Gables High School, which had been briefly cordoned off as a precaution before the lockdown was lifted.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials said the incident had nothing to do with the school and was not connected in any way to the school.
