Steele Canyon High School aide arrested on suspicion of drunkenness after giving alcohol to students on campus

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, a special education teacher at Steele Canyon High School was arrested Tuesday after allegedly giving alcohol to students in the classroom.

The employee, identified by authorities as 23-year-old Zechariah Oakley, was reportedly intoxicated while at the school, which is why officers came to campus, according to the sheriff’s office.

Oakley was later booked into San Diego Central Jail and faces two misdemeanors: inducing a minor to commit a crime and disorderly conduct while intoxicated in a public place.

Further details about the incident were not immediately available. FOX 5/KUSI contacted Steele Canyon authorities but did not receive a response.

However, in a statement to the students’ families, Steele Canyon High School Principal Scott Parr called the arrest “an extremely unfortunate incident.”

The high school is a charter school in Spring Valley, but special education staff is contracted through the Grossmont Union High School District.
