Barrow youth convicted of raping and sexually assaulting underage girls

The 16-year-old from Barrow, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of raping a minor girl contrary to Section 1 of the Sexual Offenses Act 2003.

The teenager was also convicted of two counts of sexual assault on the same victim despite failing to consent contrary to sections 2 and 3 of the Sexual Offenses Act 2003.

He originally denied the offenses on September 8 last year, but was found guilty following trial on March 1.

The boy also faces a conviction for criminal damage to property worth under £5,000 after pleading guilty to the offense on April 19 this year.

Details of the offense include that he damaged a mobile phone intercom worth £500 belonging to Cumbria Constabulary.

On May 2, magistrates referred all charges to the Crown Court for sentencing.

He was granted conditional bail and will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on May 30.
