A tearful Jamie Lynn Spears recalls a nightmare accident in which her daughter almost drowned

Jamie Lynn Spears was sunk I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! as she spoke about the nightmarish incident in which her young daughter almost drowned.

The actor, best known as Britney Spears’ sister, has two daughters: Maddie, 15, whom she shares with ex Casey Aldridge, and Ivey Joan, five, with husband Jamie Watson.

Although Jamie Lynn initially had difficulties in the jungle – mainly because she missed her children – she has now settled into life I’m a celebrity Camp. During the show on Monday evening (November 27th) the Zoey 101 Star said she made lifelong friends on the show, with whom she discussed the traumatic accident in 2017 that nearly took her daughter Maddie’s life.

After recalling her childhood in Louisiana, she told Sam Thompson, Tony Bellew and Marvin Humes: “I almost lost my oldest daughter…she drowned and we couldn’t save her. We really tried hard. She was trapped under a small semi-trailer that we use to drive around our pond.”

Explaining that Maddie was only “eight or nine” at the time, she said, “My father-in-law, my mother-in-law, me and my husband, we’re running to save her and you.” This isn’t real, she’ll show up, this isn’t real.

“I could feel her arm and I was jerking it, I couldn’t lift her because it’s quite a heavy machine. At that moment you think you know logically that she was underwater for too long…no one can survive being underwater for that long. You logically think these things.”

Jamie Lynn continued: “Then you hear the sirens coming. Thank God my mother-in-law, the first thing she did was call 911… (Maddie) was caught in the safety net. When they got there, she was no longer alive. They took her away from me and hatched her.”

“I was sitting on the rocks, I was throwing up, the adrenaline, then I heard (my mother-in-law) call my mom and say, ‘Lynne, we lost Maddie.’ Then three seconds later the firefighter came over and said, “We have a pulse, we have a pulse.”

“They airlifted her… she’s on life support, ventilators and all that… they came in, a priest, proclaiming her final rights, and as they did that, her body physically straightened, her spirit reacted for some reason Reason why… She got better day by day and was able to leave the hospital. This has no impact.”

Jamie Lynn explained that she became a Catholic after this experience. “For about five minutes I thought I had lost my daughter and then I experienced the miracle of having her back,” she said through tears. “My biggest fear was that she would die because she thought her mother hadn’t tried to save her.”

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm and Saturdays at 9.30pm on ITV.
