Alexandria cyclist killed in Frederick County crash

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A bicyclist from Alexandria was killed in a crash in Frederick County, Maryland, Saturday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police.

The crash involving a car and a bicycle occurred at U.S. Route 15 and Catoctin Furnace Road before 3:30 p.m. Saturday. According to police, a Toyota 4Runner traveling north on Route 15 south of Catoctin Furnace Road collided with a bicyclist crossing Route 15 from west to east at Catoctin Furnace Road.

The cyclist was pronounced dead by the Frederick County Fire Department. He was identified as Scott Cornell Binde, 64, of Alexandria.

The driver remained at the scene of the accident. Police do not believe alcohol played a role in the accident. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Maryland State Police.

After the accident, US Route 15 northbound was closed for about three hours.
