Seoul suspends inter-Korean military pact over North Korean garbage balloons

South Korea plans to completely suspend an inter-Korean military agreement “until mutual trust” with North Korea is restored. In response, Pyongyang has released around a thousand balloons filled with garbage and feces across the border.

The President’s Office announced in a press release on Monday that the National Security Council (NSC) had approved the suspension of the entire Comprehensive military agreement (CMA) and will discuss the proposal at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, a day after Seoul raised the possibility of resuming propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
