Man arrested for sexual assault after flying 15-year-old to Arkansas

FORT SMITH, Arkansas (KNWA/KFTA) – A Fort Smith man was arrested for allegedly having an online relationship with a 15-year-old girl from California.

On Friday, May 31, the Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) was contacted by law enforcement officials from the state of California regarding an investigation involving 49-year-old Fort Smith resident Sean Robert Schiemann, according to a press release.

Schiemann allegedly bought a plane ticket from California to Arkansas for a 15-year-old girl, where he then picked her up at Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA).

Investigations by the Fort Smith Police Department and the U.S. Marshals to locate the two individuals followed, which led to Schiemann and the minor being found at his residence in Fort Smith.

Schiemann was subsequently taken to the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center. He is now charged with sexual assault, stalking a child via the Internet and two counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.

Schiemann is currently being held on $100,345 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 5 on the first four charges. He is also scheduled to appear in court on June 4 on a charge of contempt of court or willful disobedience.

The investigation is ongoing and the FSPD will work with California authorities to review additional possible charges against Schiemann, the press release said.
