1 dead after collision between go-kart and SUV on the east side

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman has died following a reported crash between a go-kart and an SUV in east Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

On Monday at approximately 10:01 p.m., IMPD was called to the area between 16th Street and Fenton Avenue for a report of an accident. When officers arrived, they found an adult female and an adult male involved in the accident.


According to IMPD, the two people were riding a go-kart and were reportedly struck by a vehicle that an officer on scene identified as an SUV. The vehicle did not remain at the scene of the accident.

IMPD officials said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said the SUV had already left the area of ​​16th Street and Fenton Avenue. Officers do not know which direction the SUV was traveling or what exactly happened during the incident. IMPD did not provide a description of the SUV.

Police are looking for witnesses and may want video of the incident. IMPD said the intersection is expected to be closed “for quite some time” while the investigation into the incident begins.

IMPD said that out of an abundance of caution, homicide detectives from the department are on scene. IMPD-certified accident investigators are also on scene to further investigate the incident.
