Man charged with murder after discovering elderly woman dead | Crime and Courts

SCOTT CITY, Missouri – A man is in prison for murder after police said they found a body in a Scott City home.

The Scott City Police Department, along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol (DDCC) and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, are investigating the death of an elderly woman.

Scott City Police Chief Christopher Griggs said that during a drug investigation, a man named Donald Harris told officers he “killed” someone because he disrespected his wife. Harris also told them he took pills from the victim.

Harris is said to have reported to authorities the death of an elderly woman in a nursing home.

Officers arrived at the home. Police said they found a victim. The woman suffered injuries to her head and face, and a large wooden walking stick with blood on it was found near the victim.

Harris was taken to the Scott County Jail. The jail’s website states he was arrested on May 26 and is charged with first-degree murder, delivery of narcotics in county/private prison without a written prescription and armed criminal action.
