18-year-old teen arrested for stealing beer in Porterville | YourCentralValley.com

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A teenager and an 18-year-old were arrested after allegedly stealing beer from a Porterville store and attempting to stab the owner, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s officials said they were called to the 8-10 Market in the 200 block of S. Leggett Street in Porterville for a robbery.

When the clerk arrived, he told officers that two teenagers had entered the store and attempted to steal two cases of beer. Sheriff’s officials said the store owner and his son then followed the suspects into the parking lot to retrieve the beer. During the altercation, however, the 15-year-old suspect pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the owner.

Officials said the owner and his son ran away after the attack and called the sheriff’s office. No injuries were reported in this case.

A few minutes later, sheriff’s officers spotted the truck connected to the theft in the 400 block of South Park Street. As the on-duty deputy approached, the two suspects attempted to flee but were caught.

The sheriff’s office said it took 18-year-old Johny Garcia and a 15-year-old boy into custody. The two cases of beer were seized and will be returned.
