According to Texas DPS, the accident occurred shortly after 2:15 p.m., less than a mile south of the intersection of FM51 and Friendship Road.

A white 2023 Subaru Legacy was traveling south on FM51 when it “drifted” into the northbound lane and collided “head-on” with a black Ford F-150, the department said in the news release.

“It is currently unknown why the white 2023 Subaru Legacy ended up in the northbound lane,” the press release said.

The driver of the Subaru, identified as 29-year-old Kathryn Elizabeth Lain of Boyd, died, Texas DPS said.

Three people who were in the Ford F-150: Gregory Daniel Schilb, 66, and two 9-year-old girls, also died in the crash, according to the department. Authorities have not released the names of the two children.

Autumn Rae Reed, 42, who was driving the Ford truck, was seriously injured and taken to a hospital near Fort Worth, police said.

All four occupants of the Ford were from Springtown, a city about 25 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth.

In a Facebook post Monday morning, Springtown ISD Superintendent Shane Strickland said two of the people killed in the accident were fourth-graders in the district.

According to the post, the woman who was seriously injured in the accident is a teacher at Goshen Creek Elementary School. The teacher “is currently in stable condition, but her recovery process is lengthy,” the post says.

“Our hearts ache for the families of those we have lost, for our entire district, and for our community as a whole. It breaks our hearts to hear of the people who lost their lives during this tragedy. Life is so precious and far too short. During this difficult time, we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” the post said.
