Woman who accused former Karnataka chief minister Yediyurappa of sexually assaulting her daughter dies | Crime News

The woman had approached the authorities alleging that the former Karnataka chief minister had assaulted her daughter at his residence in Dollar City, Bengaluru on February 2. New Delhi: A woman who had accused senior BJP politician BS Yediyurappa of sexually abusing her 17-year-old daughter died in a private hospital in Bengaluru after a prolonged illness, sources said on Monday. The woman had approached the authorities alleging that the former Karnataka chief minister had abused her daughter at his residence in Dollar City, Bengaluru on February 2.

The Sadashivanagara police station registered the case on March 14, citing Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act relating to sexual assault and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) relating to sexual harassment. The woman claimed that she and her daughter had visited Yediyurappa’s house on February 2 seeking help in a business-related fraud case when the incident allegedly took place.

A police official said the terminally ill woman was taken to a private hospital on Hulimavu Bannerghatta Road on Sunday as she was having difficulty breathing. She was admitted to the intensive care unit but later succumbed to her condition.

CID investigates attack

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman alleged that the 81-year-old politician inappropriately touched and sexually assaulted her daughter in his room on February 2 when she sought his help. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is probing the sexual assault case and has recorded the statements of the woman and her daughter before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Yediyurappa denies allegations

BS Yediyurappa has denied the allegations and said that the woman and her daughter had approached him several times seeking justice and that he had referred them to the superintendent of police for further action. Despite the woman’s death, police officials confirmed that the investigation would continue based on the statements already recorded.
