4 girls stabbed to death in seemingly random attack at Massachusetts movie theater

Four girls ages 9 to 17 were injured in an apparently random attack at a movie theater in Braintree, Massachusetts, on Saturday, police said.

A suspect was arrested after a chase that ended in Sandwich on Cape Cod, about 45 miles south of Braintree, Braintree police said in a statement.

The identity of the person was not available.

Braintree police described the attack on the AMC Braintree 10 cinema complex as “seemingly unprovoked”.

“He walked past the ticket counter and entered one of the cinemas without paying. In this cinema he met four young women,” the police statement said. “Without saying anything and without warning, he suddenly attacked the four young women and stabbed them.”

The girls were taken to Boston-area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Their exact condition was not known.

The same driver may be responsible for similar acts of violence in Plymouth, less than 30 miles south of Braintree, police said.

No further details about this incident were initially available.

Police investigators searched surveillance video and other evidence to find a black SUV used by the suspect, Braintree police said. They also found a license plate and turned it over to local authorities, the department said.

An SUV with this license plate was involved in a Massachusetts State Police chase that ended in an accident, police said. The suspect was eventually arrested. It is unclear whether the person was injured in the accident.
