Weather of the first warning:

  • Sunday is a First Alert weather day with two possible rounds of severe storms
  • Destructive wind and flash floods are the main threats of the first round
  • Destructive winds, heavy hail, brief tornadoes and flash floods are possible in the second round

Sunday is a First Alert Weather Day.

Sunday morning: We expect potentially severe storms to move through in two waves. The first round will come in the morning and hit our region from about 4 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the St. Louis metropolitan area most likely to face strong storms from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Damaging winds and flooding will be the main hazards this round, but there is also a smaller risk for hail and brief tornadoes.

Sunday afternoon-evening: After a lull in the stormy weather from midday through the afternoon, a second round of strong to severe storms is possible from about 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the focus on the St. Louis metropolitan area from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gaps in the cloud cover during this lull will help replenish the storm after the morning rain. Round two could bring strong winds (over 70 mph), large hail, brief tornadoes, and localized flooding. There are still some unanswered questions about where these storms will move and how intense they will be, but even if you don’t get hit with a strong or severe storm, thunderstorms are likely tomorrow afternoon!

Monday (Remembrance Day) looks dry and partly cloudy, with decreasing humidity – a welcome break after an active Sunday. The calm weather is likely to continue for most of the next work week.
