Russian attacks on hardware store and city center in Kharkiv, Ukraine, kill four people

At least four people were killed and dozens injured in Russian attacks on a busy hardware store and a residential area in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Saturday, local authorities said.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an impassioned appeal to Ukraine’s Western allies to help strengthen air defenses to ensure the security of the country’s cities.

Four people were killed when two guided bombs hit the hardware store in a residential area of the city, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said on national television.

At least two of the dead were store employees. Forty people were injured in the attack and 16 are still missing, Syniehubov said.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said about 120 people were in the hardware store when the bombs hit.

“The attack was directed against the shopping center, where many people were gathered – this is clearly terrorism,” Terekhov said.
