New problems for Labour Party: Edo leaders suspend Abure

The government said Abure was suspended for alleged arrogance and involvement in anti-party activities.

His suspension was contained in a letter dated May 14, 2024 and signed by the district chairman. Thomas Ehigueseand District Secretary, Stanley Usiomoh.

At a meeting of the State Executive Committee in Benin on the night of Friday, May 24, 2024, the above letter and a separate letter of ratification dated May 15, 2024 were ratified by the Executive Committees.

They also urged Abure not to pose as a member of the Labour Party or to show off.

The letter of ratification was subsequently forwarded by the Chairman of the party’s local government in Esan North East through the State Chairman to the party’s State Executive Committee. Patrick Onogbeniand LG Secretary, Ehikioya Eromosele.

“I hereby transmit for your consideration the ratification of the suspension of Julius Abure as member of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Ean North East LGA, Edo State.

“The LGA Board met on May 15, 2024 at around noon to discuss the matters submitted for suspension and accordingly found them to be of weight and the suspension was ratified and maintained,” read the letter.

In the meantime Kelly Ogbaloi-led state executive committee approved the decisions of the party’s district and municipal committees at its meeting on Friday.

After examining the letters and the facts contained therein, the Committee ratified the suspension of the National Chairman with immediate effect.

The NLC also approved the establishment of an interim committee headed by the NLC Political Commission to manage the affairs of the party in the interim.
