A man dies in a car and bicycle accident in Carmel

CARMEL, Ind. – Carmel police are investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.

According to a press release, the accident occurred around 10:19 a.m. Friday. CPD reported that the cyclist – who was identified as 85-year-old Giacchino Mutone – was transported from the scene of the accident to a local hospital before ultimately dying.


After a preliminary investigation, police determined that a juvenile male was turning from Towne Road onto West Main Street prior to the accident. At the same time, Mutone was traveling south on a multi-use trail along Towne Road.

Mutone was struck by the teen driver’s car as he later attempted to cross West Main Street.

The CPD accident investigation team is still investigating the crash. Officials encourage anyone with information about the crash to call CPD at (317) 571-2500.
