Lyon County authorities are investigating Monday’s personal injury accident

LYON COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) – Authorities in Lyon County are investigating a personal injury crash involving two vehicles Monday evening.

On Monday, May 20, at approximately 5:45 p.m., an orange 2010 Chevrolet Camaro crossed the centerline of the roadway and struck a black 2018 GMC Sierra. The Camaro, driven by Veronica Ruiz, 51, of Emporia, was driving in the center line of the road for an unknown reason.

Zachary Grider, 24, of Iola, was the driver of the Sierra and was struck head-on.

Lyon County officers and Emporia/Lyon County EMS were dispatched to the 600 block of 200 Street (Americus Road).

Ruiz was taken to Newman Regional Hospital for her injuries. Grider and the two other Sierra residents declined treatment at the scene.

Officials said everyone involved was wearing seat belts during the accident.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the personal injury accident.
