Sanjay Giri dies during treatment, the death toll rises to four

KATHMANDU, May 19: The death toll in the tin shed fire in Lalitpur has reached four.

Sanjay Giri, who was critically injured in a fire in a tin shed in Lalitpur metropolitan area-17, passed away on Saturday. Giri’s death follows the earlier deaths of his two daughters and his wife.

Giri and five members of his family were injured in the fire that broke out on May 6 in a tin shed where Mobil was stored. Lalitpur district police station confirmed that Giri, who was on ventilator support at KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital, died on Saturday.

Sanjay’s wife Rupa Giri succumbed to her injuries at the same hospital on May 13. Her two daughters, 8-year-old Priya Giri and 3-year-old Alisha Giri, died the next day and were left injured in the fire.

Sanjay’s nephew, 15-year-old Neet Giri, who was also injured in the fire, is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be stable.
