Real estate dealer arrested for multiple rape of woman in Delhi

New Delhi: A 36-year-old woman was allegedly blackmailed and raped multiple times by a real estate dealer in Delhi’s Mehrauli district, police said on Wednesday.

Police said a case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Mehrauli police station on Tuesday based on a complaint lodged by the woman against a person identified as Rahul alias Sunny.

In her complaint, the woman claimed that she wanted to buy a flat for which she had met Rahul, a real estate dealer, about a year and a half ago.

“She alleged that Rahul raped her several times after that. She also alleged that Rahul visited her late last year and stole around $5,000 from the house, which was later discovered by her husband, who is an engineer by profession,” a senior police official said.

“We have taken Rahul (38) into custody. His interrogation is underway,” an official said, adding that police are probing the case from all angles, including extortion.
